Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a concentration derived from one of the oldest medicinal plants known. It helps to provide exceptional healing properties that can draw and hold oxygen to the skin.

It helps to soothe sunburn, moisturize, boosts healing of wounds, fights skin-aging, reduces infection and acne, as well as lightens blemishes on the face. It’s also great for hair growth, keeps dandruff at bay, and helps to maintain the vitality of the hair and its shine.

A succulent, aloe vera plants are also an environmentally sustainable crop as it is remarkably more energy and water-efficient than other crops or animals.

Bali Sea Salt

A bit of sea salt can transform your hair – It texturizes your hair, holds it up in style, and  gives your hair volume naturally. Sea salt also absorbs excess oil and moisture to prevent fungal growth and the root of dandruff.

Bali Sea Salt is a lesser known local produce, and it’s a hard trade with lengthy process. It begins by creating a flat, solid base of sand, and the fine black sands of Klungkung regency are perfect for it. 

The farmer then collects salt water from the sea and sprays it along the top of the sand bed several times before he let the sand dry naturally under the sun.

Bamboo Charcoal

Bamboo charcoal can adsorb (NOT absorb!) toxins, impurities, and free radicals WITHOUT stripping your body’s natural oil. Its antiviral property kills all viruses on contact and can act as a potent skin cleanser. Compare to regular charcoal, bamboo charcoal has 10 times MORE surface area and is 4 times STRONGER in its absorption rate. 

Activated bamboo charcoal helps drawing blackheads to the surface, so you can extract them more easily. Consistent use will help eliminate blackheads, whiteheads, reduce acne, and make pores look smaller. In addition, it can also whiten your teeth.

Bamboo is popular with environmentally conscious consumers because it is one of the MOST sustainable resources available. The plant can renew itself for generations without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides when harvested responsibly.

Most people know about chamomile’s calming and relaxing benefits when it’s consumed as herbal tea, but it also has tremendous benefits to your skin. Its anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antibacterial, antiseptic, and antioxidant qualities help in a whole range of skin issues.

Chamomile cleanses and calms irritated skin, helps fight frequent breakouts, penetrates below the skin surface, and reduces eczema.

Castor Oil

Castor oil contains antioxidants that fight free radicals in your body and helps to remove dark circles. Its antibacterial properties help to prevent acne, as well as helping you to protect your follicles from damage and promote hair growth.

The essential fatty acids castor oil contains can help to restore the skin’s natural moisture, reducing puffiness and dryness. It also penetrates the skin and stimulates the body’s own collagen and elastin productions. 

Coconut Oil

Sukime uses high-grade cold-pressed coconut oil as a carrier oil in nearly all of our products. It’s an extremely versatile fruit. A Balinese stable and superfood, you can easily see coconut trees everywhere all year round.

In southeast Asia, coconut oil is a household item and is used in cooking, as well as treating chapped, dry skin. Coconut oil minimizes fine lines and wrinkles, calms temporary redness, and it absorbs easily. It can also work as a protective layer when exposing yourself to the sun (However, do NOT use it as a sunscreen.)

Studies have also shown that the fatty acids in coconut make the oil easy to absorb by the hair and helps with hair that was undamaged, bleached, chemically treated, and UV exposed to reduce protein loss. It also promotes hair growth.

Cajeput Oil

Also known as whitewood oil, cajeput oil is extracted via steam distillation from the fresh leaves and twigs of cajeput and paperbark trees. These tropical trees are found mostly in Sulawesi, Indonesia, and in certain parts of Australia. 

Cajeput oil is great for Calming irritated skin by producing a natural protective barrier, reducing scars, itchiness, rashes, and insect bites. Its analgesic properties help reducing head, gum, joint, and muscle pains. It’s safe to apply it on babies as it can rid of baby’s nappy rashes! As an astringent, it helps to remove excess oil while shrinking your skin pores. It can also be used as a hair tonic to reduce split ends and breakage, as well as dryness on the scalp.

In addition, cajeput oil can release stress and calm the mind. Its anti-spasmodic quality helps clear obstructed menstruation.

Carrot Oil

Carrot oil is made by crushing carrot roots infused in a carrier oil. It has many qualities that are beneficial to the skin. The abundance of vitamin A prepares your skin for tanning, makes a great natural tanning accelerator.

It also helps to minimize wrinkles, detoxify and rejuvenate, moisturize, and adds antioxidant protection to the skin. Besides, carrot oil boosts blood circulation to the scalp when used to massage the scalp, hydrates your hair, and keeps it healthier from root to top.

It also contains vitamins E, B1, and B6 which are necessary for healthy hair growth and clear bright skin. These qualities shield your skin and hair from outdoor damage, including UV and environmental pollution.

Carrot Seed Oil

Often confused with carrot oil, the carrot seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the daucus carota plant.

Its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties help heal dry, chapped, and cracked skin, as well as balancing the moisture in skin and hair.

It has promising potential as an antibacterial and anti-fungal agent. Another great property of carrot seed oil is its UV protection. However, we don’t recommend using it as sunscreen!

Citronella Oil

Citronella slows or prevents the growth or spread of harmful airborne bacteria, repels flying insects, uplifts negative moods, and relaxes the body and mind. It also reduces muscle spasms, eases headaches, and boosts energy.

Citronella can also eliminate head and body lice, improves skin’s absorption of moisture, prevents fungus growth on wounds, and boosts the healing of wounds and immunity.

Other additional benefits of citronella oil including healing eczema and dermatitis, promotes the body’s expulsion of toxins, reduces symptoms of the flu, colds, fever, and boosts metabolism and digestion.

Clove Oil

Clove oil is a powerful anti-aging ingredient when it’s used in cosmetics. It removes dead skin cells and promotes blood circulation, returns your skin to its youth and radiance. 

Clove oil has been used for centuries in Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicinal practices. It fades dark spots and evens skin tone. It also promotes hair growth, efficiently treats dandruff, and reducing itchiness. 

It’s a natural analgesic and pain killer – Clove oil has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. When it’s diluted with a carrier oil, it benefits your gum health and helps to slow down the gum receding process.

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter is extracted from roasted cacao beans. It contains natural saturated fats and antioxidants that help to soften and heal the skin. It is also rich in vitamin A and E. The top benefits of cocoa butter include hydrates and deeply nourishes the skin, reduces skin irritation, diminishes the appearance of stretch marks and scars.

When it’s used on the hair, it can prevent hair loss from breakage, strengthens the hair shaft, moisturizes and repairs damaged hair, and replenishes oil lost due to the chemical process.

Pure Essential Oils

Essential oil blend is the oily liquid obtained from plants through a variety of processes. It usually has the taste and smell of the original plant. Why is it called “essential oil”? The theory is throughout history,  plants and herbs were essential to life, and they were the “essence” of the plant.

The use of essential oils as preservatives is ancient. Sukime uses many citrus-type essential oils in our products because of their naturally high vitamin C content. It’s ways safer and more natural to nourish your skin with all-natural vegan body care products rather than unknown chemicals that are possibly tested on animals.

*Matcha* Green Tea

Matcha is made from tencha tea, which is a type of green tea. The leaves were kept in the shade and steamed before the grinding process.

Matcha contains chlorophyll, which is a natural anti-bacterial. Not only it removes excess oils from your skin, but it also helps eliminate bacteria that cause acne. Its soothing coolness can help reduce redness from rosacea, acne, and other skin condition. Other benefits include quenches inflammation and even complexion.

Since it’s a type of green tea, the potent antioxidant property offers 20 times the free radical scavenging effects of vitamin E, which protects skin against pollution, sun damage, prevents skin cancer, environmental stress, and cellulite.

Guar Gum

Guar Gum is a natural resin from the seeds (guar beans) of an Asian tree (Cyamopsis tetragonolobus). It increases emulsion stability and retains water in your skin. It’s an excellent thickening and binding agent. 

And since guar gum is non-toxic and biodegradable, it’s very environmentally friendly. It serves as a perfect ingredient for natural face masks. 

Marshmellow Root

Marshmallow Root is packed with vitamins, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. The plant’s roots are filled with “mucilage”, which is extremely effective in moisturizing the skin. It forms a protective layer to seal your skin in moisture, which is ideal for dry and hypersensitive skin.

Marshmallow root is particularly suitable to use beneath your eyes. Its soothing quality nourishes your skin and reduces wrinkles in the delicate area. It can also treats insect bites and skin irritations.

This powerful plant has become a popular ingredient in vegan body care products. 


Magnesium is an important substance for human body. It has benefits for our skin and muscles, as well as our mood and brain function. Magnesium soothes aching muscles, support healthy bones, boosts energy level and skin health, improves sleep, eases PMS and period pain, relieves constipation and stress.

Moringa Oil

Moringa, also known as the “miracle tree” or “the tree of life”, is one of the popular vegetables among the Kaili ethnic tribe in Central Sulawesi. Records has also shown that Indians used Moringa as a medicine since 5,000 years ago.

Its oil contains 72% of oleic acid, which is a fatty acid that’s perfect for dry and aging skin. It penetrates the skin deeply and locks in the moisture, provides the necessary nutrients to the skin and hair. It’s anti-inflammatory properties help the scalp scaling and moisturizes well. It also has zinc that helps with keratin production to help strengthen, protect, and moisturize the hair.

Our Moringa Oil is made from its seed and can prevent ulcer and oral cavity. It has 7 times the vitamin C of an orange, 4 times the vitamin A of carrots, 4 times the calcium of milk, 3 times the potassium of bananas, and 2 times the protein of yogurt. These properties help develop strong gums, prevent gum disease, and harmful bacterial infections.

Grapeseed Oil

Grape seeds contain the powerful anti-oxidant proanthocyanidin, which supports the actions of vitamin E and beta-carotene while increasing the action of Vitamin C.

Incorporate grapeseed oil as a part of your daily beauty ritual can encourage wound healing, regenerate damaged blood vessel, and helps clear potentially pathogenic bacteria from wounds. It has anti-inflammatory properties and enhances the formation of epidermal tissue.

We use grapeseed oil as one of our carrier oils. You can find it in almost all our products.

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil promotes relaxation and helps reduce wrinkles, lessens acne, and lightens skin. It soothes eczema and dry skin, as well as sunburn. 

The medicinal benefits include reducing anxiety, fungal infections, prevent hair loss, and relieving pain from muscle aches and sores. It also stabilizes mood and helps with PMS.

Lavender oil also helps promote hair growth. Its antimicrobial properties help prevent itchy scalp or dandruff and even infections, as well as head lice.

Lecithin is an essential fat in the cells of the body, and it’s presented in all living cells. It is a waxy oil derived from soybeans that have a great water-binding ability, and it acts as an anti-oxidant and emulsifier.

It acts as a natural humectant that helps to keep your skin hydrated, regenerate and renew your skin cells. Soy lecithin has loads of antioxidants and emollient properties which effectively treat dark spots, blemishes, and acne. 

Lemongrass Oil

Lemongrass is an essential herb to Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Indonesian countries. it’s widely used in Southeast Asian cuisines, tea, and skincare.

Its oil is a natural astringent to control excess oil on the skin. It’s a natural toner, and it shrinks pore size, tightens, and firms skin. Its unique anti-fungal, antimicrobial and antiseptic properties make it a perfect ingredient for our Mosquito Repellent & First Aid Oil.

We also use lemongrass oil in our Calming Oil blend as it helps relieve stress, anxiety, depression, and eliminates mental fatigue effectively. 


Olive Oil

Olive oil has a major moisturizing effect. It softens and strengthens hair by penetrating the hair shaft and preserving moisture, minimizing frizz, and keeping your hair shine by smoothening the outer cuticle of the hair.

It also helps with elasticity, which results in less breakage. Using olive oil as a part of your hair care ingredients can help your hair grow longer.

Peppermint Oil

“Peppermint oil naturally cleanses the skin and has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It has a cooling effect which soothes irritation and inflammation due to acne,” (Dr. Debra Jaliman, assistant professor of dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine). Its cooling effect refreshes the skin, as well as breaths.

Research has found that peppermint oil is exceptionally powerful for fighting oral pathogens and killing common bacteria that can lead to cavities and gum disease. Its numbing quality makes it ideal for restoring oral health.

We use peppermint oil extensively in many products, including our popular Zero-Waste Shampoo Bars, Best-Selling Deodorant, Calming OilMagnesium Oil, and Tooth & Gum oil.

Raw Cacao

Indonesia is Asia’s biggest cacao producer, and right here in Bali, we have a cooperative of 171,000 farmers in West Kalimantan – who have started to develop a sustainable cacao plantation to reduce farmer dependence on rubber and palm oil plantations while diversifying their income through this initiative. 

Applying raw cacao to your skin offers a lot of the same benefits as eating it. The high levels of antioxidants protect and repair the skin from damage and premature aging. As a potent anti-inflammatory, it also soothes redness and blemishes, improving your skin complexion.

This superfood has over 300 identifiable compounds including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and phytonutrients. High in magnesium, zinc, iron, calcium, beta-carotene, and omega 6 fatty acids, cacao protects your skin against environmental stressors, feeds the skin, and produces a healthy glow when applying topically.

Red Algae

Commonly known as “Irish moss”, it contains carrageenan, which is a gel-forming polysaccharide found in the red algae seaweed. It is a very soothing natural emulsifier, high in sulfur, and extremely nourishing to the skin. 

Red algae are harvested by family farmers in coastal communities around the world. More than 13,000 seaweed farmers in the Philippines and Indonesia signed petitions imploring the NOSB to keep carrageenan on the list, so they can keep their jobs. According to a 2013 UN report, “the socio-economic impacts of carrageenan seaweed farming…[are] overwhelmingly positive.”

Red Algae is also one of the most sustainable crops on the planet. Growing and harvesting it requires none of the fertilizers, pesticides, or other chemicals that are used in land-based farming.

Rose & Rose-water

Rosewater is one of the most ancient and revered beauty treatments used today. The usage dated back to early Egypt, when Cleopatra used it for her skincare regime. It “enlivens” dry, mature, and wrinkled complexions while soothing sensitive skin at any age. 

Rosewater gives your skin a healthy glow and boosts its hydration. It helps maintain the skin’s pH balance, control excess oil, and healing scars, cuts, and wounds. It’s also great for eczema or psoriasis, as well as removing dark circles, and lightens the skin.

Its pleasant scent helps reduce anxiety, promotes emotional well-being and your sleep quality.

Rosemary Oil

An herb with anti-oxidant, cleansing, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal properties, rosemary also has a powerful, refreshing smell that’s beneficial to mental wellness. 

It increases circulation, reduces joint inflammation, treats acne and rheumatic pain. Rosemary oil also detoxifies your skin as it triggers lymphatic drainage, aids in expelling toxins from the skin.

Research shows that the aroma of rosemary oil can lower the stress hormone cortisol levels in your blood.  We use it in our Calming Oil as it improves brain function (concentration and memory), eases stress, and helps to perk you up!

Shea Butter

Shea butter is oil-rich in fats that are derived from the karite tree (or shea tree). It’s an excellent moisturizer, and it’s known for being a great remedy to skin rashes, acne, skin peeling after tanning, scars, stretch marks, frost and insect bites, stings, burns, and athlete’s foot.

Its anti-inflammatory properties help reducing skin inflammation. Shea butter is also one of the best anti-aging agents for the skin.

it can restore your hair that’s damaged from chemical treatments. The low SPF it contains is sufficient to protect the hair from UV exposure. It also reduces hair loss, soothes dry and itchy scalp. It’s an effective natural conditioner and can reduce split ends and hair breakage.

Spirulina is not just a well-known superfood but also super for your skin. Spirulina is green-blue algae and a complete protein that contains all the essential amino acids and omega-3 fatty acids. It’s rich in many nutrients, including iron and B vitamins.

Spirulina contains many antioxidants properties, which provide anti-aging and anti-inflammatory effects. Phycocyanin, which is the main active ingredient in spirulina, helps activate cellular antioxidant activity and eliminates free radicals.

Spirulina can potentially detoxify heavy metal in our bodies and skin, prevent candida skin infection, help to reduce acne, psoriasis, and eczema.

Sunflower Oil

Sunflower oil is packed with antioxidants including Vitamin A & E. These vitamins help protect skin from free radicals and from the adverse effects of the sun, regenerate damaged skin cells, and get rid of the acne-causing bacteria. 

Sunflower oil’s lightening properties restrains the production of melanin and fights against post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), which is why it’s a popular vegan skincare solution for dark spots left by acne.

Its production is relatively sustainable, and it is also biodegradable with low toxicity.

Tea Tree Oil

Derived from the leaves of the Melaleuca plant, tea tree oil is used to treat acne, insect bites, fungus, and other skin and scalp disorders. It is a strong disinfectant. The strong yet pleasant scent keeps mosquitoes, ants, and other biting or stinging insects at bay makes it a great insect repellent and first aid oil.

Tea tree oil is one of the best remedies to fight underarm odor. Its astringent and antimicrobial properties help minimize the pore in your underarms and fight the odor-causing bacteria in the area. You can find it in our best-selling deodorant

Tea tree oil is also a natural remedy for bad breath and contains ingredients that diminish plaque. We include it in our Tooth & Gum Oil (50ml).

Turmeric is another Balinese stable. It’s not only used as a spice in cooking but also often used as a complement to rituals or traditional ceremonies. Turmeric has potent medicinal and therapeutic benefits, especially for your face and skin.

It protects from sun damage, reduces acne, heals wounds, delays the appearance of aging, fades hyperpigmentation, evens skin tone, increases collagen production, and soothes skin.

Turmeric is also well-known for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which make it good for your oral health. One study in 2012 showed that curcumin in turmeric can prevent gingivitis or gum disease, help remove plaque and bacteria.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), a potent antioxidant that may play an essential role in building collagen, which is the connective tissue that holds us together!

Vitamin C can be found in citrus fruits, and because of its acidic nature, it also helps to improve tone and texture by removing dead skin cells and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) is an antioxidant and cellular renewal ingredient that when combined with vitamins A and C, acts as a preservative in the oil phase of cosmetic formulations.

Vitamin E is essential for healthy skin, and this includes your scalp! It nourishes your scalp and gives your hair a strong base to grow by reducing oxidative stress and preserving the protective lipid layer.

It may also effectively reduce UV damage in the skin when applying topically.

Zinc Oxide

Zinc oxide is a natural, mineral-derived “skin protecting” sunscreen agent. it is antiseptic, astringent, and soothing. Zinc oxide offers broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

Zinc is an important mineral to the body in many ways – It keeps the immune system strong, reduces inflammation, and ward off acne flare-ups.

Zinc is found in every cell in your body, and your skin cells are particularly dependent on it as the top layer of your skin is concentrated with up to 6 TIMES MORE of the mineral that is found in the lower layers.
